Life in Rome

Live - and Eat - Like an Emperor!

Rome is more than classes in historical structures such as the Colosseum. From the centrally located residence, the city, country and European continent await your inquisitive and adventurous spirit.

The recently-remodeled Villino Dufault located in an authentic Roman neighborhood and close to bus and rail transportation (included in tuition) will be your home for the spring, summer or fall semesters. The Villino provides the finest in Roman accommodations including a library, on-site laundry, dining area, full kitchen and rooftop dining area. Signora Romanini, your Italian chef, not only introduces you to fine Italian dining. She will teach you how to eat like an Italian as you gather with your peers in the program studying in Rome for family-style meals as you review the memorable highlights of the day and plan the next day's adventures.

What's Included?

Financial aid follows all Assumption students to the Rome campus. Included in tuition are all University-sponsored excursions to breathtaking Italian destinations such as Venice, Florence, Urbino, Pompeii or Naples to name but a few. The University works with a travel agent to negotiate the lowest possible airfare so that students may depart Logan International Airport and arrive in Rome, together. Also included in tuition is a Roma Metro pass, which provides to you free transportation throughout Rome to visit the sites or to relax enjoy a cappuccino or gelato on one of Rome's many piazzas. Students also need spending money as many opt to travel on low-cost European airlines for weekend travel to cities such as Barcelona, Munich, Amsterdam, London and many more.

Accommodations

Completely remodeled in 2013, Villino Dufault is located within a traditional, safe residential neighborhood in the heart of Rome. Students live in double rooms, with private baths shared by every two rooms. Shared living, dining and classroom spaces as well as complete laundry and computer facilities with WiFi, offer students elegance, comfort and convenience. The residential neighborhood offers authentic shopping and dining possibilities, as well as nearby jogging and gym facilities. In addition to its sleek modern styling, Villino Dufault is a “green” campus, with solar panels on the roof of the building. Nearby public transportation enables the city to become a classroom and for students to explore Rome and Italy.

Italian Culture

As a European capital, Rome offers the full breadth of concerts, sporting events, fashion, dining, museums and entertainment opportunities suiting all tastes, from opera to pop and back again. Rome is a lively and vibrant cultural center, reflecting the latest European trends and tastes, while still retaining its own distinctive character. With a bus and rail pass, included in tuition, you are provided countless opportunities to explore the city. For those seeking adventure, Fiumicino “Leonardo da Vinci” Airport is a quick train ride from campus providing a gateway to the European continent.

Excursions out of Rome

Travel is a fully integrated aspect of the academic program, complementing coursework with irreplaceable first-hand experience. The city and the country becomes your classroom. The curriculum includes weekly excursions to museums and monuments within the city and surrounding countryside, including, for example, Ostia Antica, Tivoli Gardens, Castel Gandolfo or Subiaco. Every semester, students and faculty also engage in longer, overnight programs to significant Italian cities, such as Florence, Urbino, Pompeii and Naples. These extended visits are included within the Rome Campus tuition and are an integrated part of the curriculum.
